The exhibition dedicated to “Fifty Years of Italian Cuisine” put
together by the Accademia Italiana della Cucina and displayed on a
series of large colourful panels, illustrates the vicissitudes of the
Italian table over the last half century. The exhibition starts with
the difficulties of alimentary autarchy and the serious problems of the
world wars. It then covers the hard times of the post war period up to
the years of the economic miracle, ending with the present which is
characterised by opulence, research, innovation and various fads. When
he inaugurated the exhibition, President of the Accademia Giuseppe
Dell’Osso explained its purpose: “it is a itinerant exhibition,
definitely not to be seen as static”. The series of panels, accompanied by an illustrated
catalogue, will follow two different routes. The first will travel
outside of Italy where exhibitions will be held in the most important
foreign capitals and cities at some of the 83 Italian Cultural
Institutes, which are part of the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Many Institutes have already reserved our exhibition as a vehicle for
promoting our gastronomy and food products. Another travelling
exhibition will be predominantly used by Accademia, although it too
will be available to the outside world. The Accademia’s Delegations
will undertake to arrange to display the exhibition in their respective
regions as a symbol of our active, cultural and social presence.
