Catalogue “Arte e Storia a Tavola”

Nella stupenda Sala del Tesoro del Castello Sforzesco, nel cuore di Milano, ha avuto luogo la mostra dei menu storici e artistici "Arte e storia a tavola", organizzata dall'Accademia Italiana della Cucina con l'alto patronato della Presidenza della Repubblica.
I menu sono stati messi a disposizione dall'Accademico bolognese Maurizio Campiverdi, uno dei massimi collezionisti del settore.
La mostra, seguendo un percorso appositamente studiato, ha condotto il visitatore attraverso la storia, il costume, la moda, l'arte che, nel corso di due secoli, hanno caratterizzato l'uso dei menu come accompagnamento indispensabile delle più importanti occasioni conviviali.
Una vetrina particolare, al centro della grande sala, ha messo in mostra una serie di menu accademici di particolare valore artistico o celebrativo.

To commemorate the exhibition, “Arte e Storia a Tavola” (Art and History at Table), the Accademia Italiana della Cucina produced a special art book which is not only the catalogue of the exhibition but also a work of significant cultural value, destined to become an integral part of the history of gastronomy.

It is the history of two centuries of menus starting with the oldest which dates back to the beginning of the 19th Century to the most recent; all attest to the fifty years of the Accademia’s existence. The formulation of the menu is fundamental to the matching up of the dishes and the wines, and therefore in bringing out the merits of regional dishes, protecting gastronomic traditions and the history and evolution of the civilisation of the table. By glancing at the pages of the book one can follow the evolution of taste over the years through the various menus. In 2004 the catalogue received a special award (“Convivio delle Arti”) at the “Libri da Gustare” (books to taste) event held during the Turin Book Fair.
